01 - Blow Out
British Airways Flight 5390 heading from Birmingham International Airport (England) to M?laga (Spain). Airplane: BAC 1-11 Series 528FL.
On June 10, 1990, at 17,300 feet, the plane lost the left windshield. This caused an explosive decompression that blew out the captain. His knees got stuck into the flight controls, changing the flight angle. The crew tries to save the captain. Furthermore, if they leave him his body will crash the engine and damage it. This episode explores what caused the decompression and the amazing actions of the crew to keep the plane flying.

On March 3, 1989, during the short local flight, a blade of the propeller on the left engine failed, inflicting serious damage to the left wing. On December 24, 1994, before taking off from Algiers Airport, 4 terrorists hijacked the plane. The plane stayed in Algiers for a while before taking off. In this period they killed 3 or 4 people. After taking off, the real intentions of the terrorists are revealed: Crash the plane in Eiffel Tower, Paris. In this episode is explored what did the captain do to save the plane.
04 - Deadly Crossroads
Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937 heading from Moscow (Russia) to Barcelona (Spain). Plane: Tupolev 154 / DHL flight heading from Bergamo (Italy) to Brussels (Belgium). Plane: Boeing 757
This happened on July 1, 2002. The flight controller, overwhelmed by the work and with technical problems, didn’t notice that the Tupolev and the Boeing were in collision course. When he notices it, is too late. He orders the Tupolev to descend, even if the anti-collision device says ascend. The Boeing’s device says descend, and they follow the instruction. The controller doesn’t notice that until the last moment.
05 - Lost
American Airlines Flight 965, heading from Miami International Airport (Florida) to Alfonso Bonilla Arag?n International Airport (Cali, Colombia). Plane: Boeing 757
On December 20, 1995, the flight was approaching to Cali. The controllers told them if they wanted to fly a straight-in approach to runway 19. The pilots misinterpreted the word “direct” and they cleared all the approaching way points from the computer. After that, the controller asked them to check back in over Tulu? (an approaching way point). Since they skipped it accidentally, they programmed the computer to head to Rozo. But the plane was re-directed to another place and crashed into the mountain. Why did this happen?
06 - Missing Over New York
Avianca Flight 52 heading from El Dorado International Airport (Bogota, Colombia) to JFK International Airport via Medellin. Airplane: Boeing 707-321.
On January 25, 1990, when the plane was getting closer to New York, the controllers asked the pilots to fly in circles, due the JFK Airport was full. After that delay, the plane was delayed again getting closer to New York. The plane was running out of fuel. They told the controllers several time that they had fuel for 10 or 6 minutes, but when they were finally heard was too late. This episode explores the causes of this deadly delay.
