Plot Summary خلاصه فيلم :Dan Cruickshank’s quest is to tell the story of civilisation through the greatest of man’s achievements. It will also be the story of his travels, and who and what he meets along the way. Whether standing before the solemn heads of Easter Island, investigating the mysterious Nazca lines in Peru or the magnificent temple of Borobodur in Java, Dan is never less than fascinating about the origins, construction, mysteries and vicissitudes of each of these monuments to the great civilisations of the world.
Do they live up to expectation? Have they been left in ruin, or over-restored? Dan’s diary, written at the end of each day, records his most intimate thoughts and feelings, the people he has met, the ups and downs of the journey, perils, joys, and the ongoing relationships formed on the road. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 TREASURES is a riveting story of adventure and the pursuit of knowledge.

Episode(s) تعداد قسمت‌ها :

01. Peru to Brazil
A trip deep into the Amazonian rainforests of Brazil to the peaks of the Peruvian mountains marks the beginning of Dan Cruickshank’s journey to over 40 countries in search of man’s most beautiful and precious achievements. Here, he visits the ruins of Machu Picchu and Rio’s giant statue of Christ, plus the gold treasures of the Moche people, who ritually sacrificed humans.
02. Mexico to America
Ancient Mayan tombs, the Statue of Liberty, Thomas Jefferson’s elegant home in Virginia and the town of Mesa Verde in Colorado - just some of the landmarks Dan Cruickshank explores as he continues his search for man’s most beautiful achievements. On a darker note he appraises the ruthlessly efficient 1851 Navy Colt handgun.
03. Australia to Cambodia
Dan Cruickshank’s informative travelogue continues with erotic cave paintings in the Australian outback, the grisly rituals of an Indonesian funeral, an ornate Thai heirloom and the majestic temples of Angkor in Cambodia.
04. Japan to China
From swords of the samurai to the tranquillity of a temple, Dan Cruickshank experiences the extremes of Japan. Then, in China, he walks the Great Wall, contemplates the massed ranks of the Terracotta Army and finds peace in the Empress of China’s marble boat.
05. India to Sri Lanka
Fertility and sex get Dan Cruickshank’s blood pumping as he grapples with a naked ten-armed goddess in Calcutta, comes face 10 to face with triple-breasted goddess Menakshi and enters the world’s greatest temple of love - the Taj Mahal. To calm down, he finds enlightenment in the celestial city of Jaipur, and is blessed by an elephant.
06. Uzbekistan to Syria
The rarely visited trading domes of Uzbekistan and Fire Temple of Azerbaijan get an incisive Dan Cruickshank appraisal, before he moves on to scale a cliff face towards arguably the biggest archaeological puzzles of the 19th century: the Bisitun carvings. The historian also takes in the remains of the great city of Persepolis in modern day Iran, explores the exotic souk in Syrian capital Damascus, and then indulges himself with some pampering at a hammam - the local steam bath.
07. Jordan to Ethiopia
Dan Cruickshank turns Indiana Jones as he hunts for the legendary Ark of the Covenant, riding a donkey along a precipitous gorge to reach the city of Petra in Jordan, facing a Guardian Monk and scaling the vertical cliff face of Debre Damo in Ethiopia as part of his quest. Also visiting the Holy Lands of Israel and Palestine he has the chance to be cleansed of all shame by an ancient relic - but will it help him find the Ark?
08. Mali to Egypt
Dan Cruickshank’s quest reaches new heights of discomfort in the Sahara desert, mitigated by the breathtaking circumcision paintings of the Dogon. In Egypt he survives a power cut deep inside a chamber of the Great Pyramid, while in Libya he identifies with Lawrence of Arabia, rather than Colonel Gaddafi.
09. Turkey to Germany
Dan Cruickshank takes to the skies before heading below the ground, floating above Turkey in a hot air balloon and then exploring , its subterranean caves. Plus a trip to Poland and the chance to salvage something from the wreckage of Nazi Germany in Berlin.
10. Bosnia to Germany and Home
The rebuilt bridge in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, which spans the Christian and Muslim worlds, and the Parthenon of Ancient Greece are both stops on the last leg of the voyage. Italy provides a veritable treasure trove, including Rome’s Pantheon and the Florentine chapel of the Medici princes. And there’s a chance to reflect on the journey. What can we learn from the fantastic variety of mankind’s creations?
